Waterproofing
The winter season is the season of snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. It can be difficult to predict what weather you will get on any given day so it’s important to prepare. One of the most important things to consider when preparing for cold weather is waterproofing.
If your boots are not fully waterproof, they will get wet on the inside when exposed to rain, sleet and snow. If your boots get wet, you run the risk of getting blisters from your feet rubbing on the inside of your boot, as well as potentially getting mould growing inside your boot if you struggle to dry them out.
Temperature Rating
When looking for winter boots you should also consider the temperature rating of the boot, as this will have a significant impact on your comfort levels when out walking in colder weather.
For example, think about how low the temperature is genuinely likely to drop. If you buy boots that will keep your feet warm down to -30C, will your feet be too hot in the milder parts of winter. Also, will the temperature actually drop that low or will it drop lower?
Bare this in mind to make sure you get the right winter boots, not just the warmest.
Durablility
Durability is another important factor to consider when purchasing winter boots. The reason for this is that these are the only shoes that are designed to keep your feet warm throughout the winter. This means that the materials used need to be of high quality and keep up with all of your demands during long walks, for example.

AX BOXING Mens Snow Boots – My Favourite Men’s Winter Boots
Most winter boots that you see on the market are big and clunky. They might “do the job” but they don’t look good doing it!
These AX BOXING Snow Boots are my favourite winter boots as they not only keep your feet warm and dry, but they also look great (in my opinion anyway).
With a leather outer shell and soft fabric inside, your feet will be warm and dry, even in the snow. If you want extra warm feet you can opt for the design with “fluff” inside, which will give you even warmer feet in the winter weather.
The sole is made from non-slip rubber, making them great in the snow and in other winter conditions.
Unlike other winter boots, you are sacrificing on a rubber shoe upper, this would ensure extra protection from water penetration, but with these boots starting at just £45, I think these boots are a great choice if you want style and functionality at an affordable price.
Quechua SH100 X-Warm – Best Budget Men’s Winter Boots
If you are just after a pair of winter boots to keep your feet warm in the cold months and you’re not to bothered about looking “stylish” in your footwear, you probably want something fairly cheap.
The Quechua SH100 X-Warm boots will fit the bill perfectly.
At just £14.99, these boots are an absolute steal compared to other winter boots on the market.
Whilst you think this means they probably don’t really keep your feet warm, then think again. In lab tests (albeit carried out by the manufacturer), these boots will keep your feet warm down to -9°c when stationary and -18°c when moving. Pretty good for not a lot of money.
The upper is also made of rubber, this makes it water repellent, so your feet will remain dry, even in the snow.
They even come with SNOWCONTACT soles, which are great for providing grip when walking in snowy conditions.
At this price, the only question would be the long term durability of the boot.
I was surprised by how much you got for your money with this boot. Definitely a top option for the budget-conscious!
Meindl Jorasse GORE-TEX® Mountain Boot – Best Men’s Winter Boots For Extreme Adventurers
There’s nothing worse than when the weather ruins your plans so that you can’t head out hiking, even if it is very cold outside.
The Meindl Jorasse GORE-TEX® Mountain Boots have been designed to make sure you never have to miss an opportunity to get out and head to the hills.
These sturdy and durable boots have been made with GORE-TEX® technology, to ensure that your feet stay dry whatever the trail throws at you.
They also have a sole made by Vibram, designed specifically by Meindl, to provide unbeatable traction in the snow.
The downside? These winter boots are priced at just over £300, making them much more expensive than other options on the list. However, you do get fantastic pair of boots for your money.
These boots are the ideal choice for the winter adventurer out there!
